Power companies’ spending on new renewables fell off a cliff

Spending by three huge power companies on new renewable generation projects fell off a cliff after they were floated on the stock exchange, new figures show.
More than a decade ago, three electricity generator-retailers were listed on the NZX, reducing Government ownership to 51 percent. Mercury, then called Mighty River Power, and Meridian were listed in 2013, and Genesis in April the following year.
